The situation in Masafer Yatta is deteriorating, with settler attacks on the more remote and smaller villages happening daily.
Today in at-Tuwani, a bulldozer with an Israeli settler and 3 soldiers in tow turned up on the Huraini’s land just above the house and started bulldozing the land, making a huge pile of rocks, and obliterating the garden and trees there. After an hour or so, the bulldozer seemed to have finished its work and the settler and soldiers moved off, so we approached closer to see what damage had been done.
The settler saw us, started screaming at us, pointing his gun and the soldiers came running. They fired half a dozen warning shots towards us with live ammunitions and made it clear they would shoot us if we didn't back off, which we did. They followed us right to the back of the Huraini’s property, shouting, taking close photos of us, and demanding to see passports. The soldiers and settler then backed off. Bizarrely, at that very moment, 2 French journalists with a Palestinian minder, turned up!
